Feature: TRIGLAV LAKES, SLOVENIA

The valley of Triglav lakes is in the heart of Triglav National Park (TNP) and is the only Slovenian national park. The park was named after Triglav, the highest mountain in the heart of the park, which is also the highest summit in Slovenia (2864 m). There are seven Triglav lakes and at least half of them are basically small ponds of water left from glaciers.
The valley of the lakes is spectacularly beautiful, no matter when you visit and what weather you have. We were not really blessed by sunny sky, though cloudy and foggy weather puts quite an atmospheric feeling to this charming area.
We had quite an ambitious plan, from Savica cottage through Komarcha steep hill and Black lake (Črno jezero) to cottage at Double lake (Dvojno jezero), then through Hribarice pass and cottage at Dolič (untranslatable) to the Kardelj cottage on Velo polje. Some 15 km of air distance. Not so innocent hike for some without much of experience. The trail is easy of course, just a length of it added to serious tiredness at the end of a 10 hour walk. Next day, from Velo polje to Bohinj lake.
Happy to reach first stop, at Black lake. Next stop was cottage at Triglav lakes (Double lake) where we had our first shot of brandy and lunch: jota, žganci and kislo mleko (delicious traditional slovenian dishes). Yammy.
Stops were frequent as serious discussion needs special attention.
One third of a first day walk took us already half a day, but we did not panic. See how thrilled we are.
Next stop for a snack, Kidney lake...
...and photo session
The sunshine did not last long and a fog layed on valley, most of hikers, due to serious debate did not notice.

After such a long day, we were tired and hungry. The shepard prepared for us dinner. How thrilled we were and modestly happy when we saw warm pasta on a table.
And in the morning shepard prepared for us breakfast. It is good to be in mountains.
After breakfast, happy and full, a mandatory group shot before descending to Bohinj lake.
